About ISF

Interactive Shader Format, or ISF for short, is a crossplatform specification for creating visual generators, FX and transitions to be used as plug-ins within other host software such as VDMX or Apple Motion.

ISF is based on GLSL, making it possible for most shaders to be written once and run the same on desktop, mobile and the web.

No special software is required to create shaders – they can be written, modified and remixed using any standard text editor.

Downloading and installing the standard set of shaders

ISF includes a standard set of 200+ free generation and FX shaders.

Some apps and tools include this collection as part of their standard install, such as:

If needed, these shaders can be manually downloaded and installed from:

Other Resources

  • Though shaders can be written, modified and remixed using any standard text editor, we provide a free ISF Editor tool which includes many useful features, including a real-time preview and error checking.
  • Visit interactiveshaderformat.com to find and share ISF shaders.
  • GLSL code can also be commonly found on websites such as GLSL Sandbox and Shadertoy, and converted to the ISF specification.
